1:43 PM EST, January 9, 2009 Four Suffolk police officers helped save the life of a 48-year-old Bethpage man having a heart attack in a Huntington Station store Friday morning, police said. An emergency 10:10 a.m. phone call brought Second Precinct officers John Fenelius, Scott Guido, Robert Romeo and James Garside to N & S Lighting at 702 East Jericho Tpke.
Aided by medical personnel from the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, the four officers started cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and Fenelius used an automatic external defibrillator. Garside, who has advanced medical training, inserted a tube down the victim's throat to allow oxygen to the lungs. Garside also hooked the man up to an intravenous line. After about half an hour, the man was stabilized and Huntington Community First Aid Squad took him to Huntington Hospital where he was admitted in stable condition. The heart attack victim's name was not made public by the police. Copyright © 2009, Newsday Inc.
